South Park is censured... once again

Tuesday 7 February 2006

A month after an entire episode was banned from ever appearing again on US television, South Park has once again been censured.

This time, it is Tom Cruise who is behind the decision. Indeed, the big movie star is very close to all the people in charge of Paramount. He has seemingly pressured them to cancel an episode of South Park which was scheduled to appear on a channel belonging to... Paramount.

In this episode, called "Trapped in the Closet", Nicole Kidman, R.Kelly and John Travolta were attempting to get Tom Cruise to leave his "closet". "It’s time for you to get out of the closet, Tom. You’re not fooling anyone..." is one of the phrases which presumably annoyed the movie star. The reference to allegations of his homosexuality are obvious...

The show was aired in november last year in the United States but it has been stopped in the UK... and perhaps in many more countries including France’s Canal +.

Once again, Tom Cruise shows that he is untouchable. Even when it comes to silly fart-and-poo humour like Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s - the creators and writers of South Park, who have a history of provocative and lavotary related comedy writing.

One thing is important though. Although the reference to Cruise’s sexuality may well have been the trigger to this censureship, it is vital to note that the episode also made cracks about Scientology. Indeed, Stan, one of the young hero’s, is presumed to be the reincarnation of the Church of Scientology’s founder... This too cannot have pleased the movie star, who is also the church’s biggest walking marketing tool...
