On November 14th 2003, four retired chiefs from the Israeli domestic security agency Shin Bet critisized Sharon’s governmental policy since his two years of rule since 2001. They condemned Sharon’s unrealistic demand for terrorism to stop as a prerequesite for negotiations, the sidelining of Yasser Arafat, and the creation of an Appartheid State "closing us up into a South African reality".
The four had all headed the Shin Bet domestic security agency sometime between 1986 and 2000. Avraham Shalom, Carmi Gillon, Maj. Gen. Ami Ayalon and Yaakov Perry denounced the war against terrorism as "an excuse"(Shalom) to perpetrate Sharon’s ruthless policies, which are bringing Israel towards "catastrophe".
Public criticism of Sharon’s policies by civic, political as well as military leaders have recently increased, and are focused on the fact that the retired General is unable to stop terrorism and resolve the ongoing crisis of the second intifida.
